On the new ship - Star Princess, Princess Cruises is reviving its exclusive Spellbound by Magic Castle experience in a newly designed speakeasy venue. Seeking a creative technology solution to be incorporated into the Spellbound project, ArtMorph caught their attention.
After an initial product introduction meeting with Brian, CEO of Octopus Design Studio LLC, he presented the ArtMorph solution to the Princess team. As the illusion design required shadows to appear on a brick wall in a compact space, ArtMorph offered a solution that traditional projection could not achieve. Impressed by its unique blend of texture and programmable light, the Princess team decided to add an ArtMorph wall to the Spellbound venue.
Design Concept and Texture Selection
As part of the illusion design, the ArtMorph wall was installed in the backstage area. The illusion in this space is one of the most important effects within Spellbound, and the wall where guests queue to enter the Peacock Theater plays a key role in bookending the experience. To support this effect, venue designer HiddenLemons selected a brick texture that matched the overall atmosphere of the venue. The CECOCECO team refined the provided pattern, replicating the relief and tactile qualities of real bricks to ensure the wall appeared fully authentic within the space.
At the installation site, it was amusing to see the client had to stop workers from placing ladders and tools against the ArtMorph wall — they thought it was an actual brick wall. The realism was so convincing that the team even had to run video to prove it was an LED wall.
The installation consists of 39 ArtMorph Grande panels and 19 ArtMorph Grande Mini panels, covering a total area of 3.5 meters wide by 2.75 meters high (9.625 m²). The ArtMorph Mini panels form the top row, completing the overall height.
