MSC Cruises is one of the world’s leading international cruise brands, with a strong global presence across the cruise industry. Among its fleet, MSC Magnifica is the fourth vessel built to the Musica-class design, representing a classic cruise experience defined by elegant interiors, generous public spaces, and flexible itinerary deployment.
As part of a refurbishment and upgrade initiative, the vessel’s interior spaces were reviewed to enhance long-term operational performance. The main atrium traditionally features a combination of backlit panels, glass elements, and a water fountain as its visual focal point. While visually impactful, the original water feature involved high maintenance complexity during continuous cruise operations, leading the client to seek an alternative solution.
Design Concept and Texture Selection
The client wanted to retain the original fish skin design. CECOCECO Team proposed enhancing the surface with a more three-dimensional expression while blending the texture with the character of Italian marble, reflecting the elegant aesthetic of the vessel.
During the design process, three marble variations were developed and evaluated. The final selection was Perlato Luna marble, chosen for its highly detailed surface and realistic stone appearance, adding richness to the fish skin pattern while allowing it to blend naturally with the surrounding interior finishes.

Implementation
Due to the ceiling height reaching up to 8 meters above floor level and continuous vibration generated during cruise operation, the project posed multiple challenges in terms of panel fixation, safety, and overall display stability. The technical execution addressed the specific challenges of a cruise ship environment. To ensure structural stability and long-term reliability, several customized measures were implemented.
- Customized structural framework:
ArtMorph frame were installed onto a client-built custom structural frame rather than a standard wall-mounted system. This approach provided improved flatness, greater structural strength, and enhanced safety. - Safety reinforcement and anti-fall measures: Rear maintenance bars were integrated to support safety locks and prevent module detachment. These bars also allowed fine adjustment between panel sections, helping to correct level differences and ensure improved flatness.
Testimonials
“CECOCECO is our partner for the Musica Class. Their product is essentially our business card onboard — it’s installed in the atrium, as shown in the attached images. The result is fantastic and has completely refreshed the look and feel of the ship’s atrium.”
